6th Annual Commercial Insolvency and Restructuring Program – April 20, 2010

The Road to Recovery

Program Highlights

Economic Overview & Forecast

Michael Gregory, Senior Economist and Managing Director of BMO Capital Markets will provide an overview of the state of the Canadian and global economies and perspectives on where various sectors are heading.

The Year in Review

A diverse range of issues have arisen as a result of insolvency filings over the past year. Restructuring professionals will review the most significant developments. They will share perspectives on major CCAA filings such as Nortel and Canwest and discuss notable receivership and bankruptcy proceedings. The practical effect and potential implications arising from the new amendments will also be considered.

Lending Strategies

Stock markets have ascended dramatically over the past year and there is talk of an economic rebound on the heels of “The Great Recession.”  Lending and credit specialists will provide insights on credit and capital markets. They will also address issues facing lenders with respect to troubled loans and their perceptions of resolutions for problem accounts.

Environmental Exposures - Facing the Risks

Trustees and receivers often find themselves facing situations where they must deal with environmental issues related to property or assets over which they are appointed. Specialists in environmental law and insolvency law, as well as a representative of the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, will discuss and debate considerations in dealing with environmental matters, including their interactions with regulatory bodies.

Labour's Evolving Influence in Restructurings

Senior strategists and advisors bring together current cases and perspectives from significant stakeholders in the ongoing dialogue about pension and labour issues in restructurings.
